Vocational Service

The Vocational Service Avenue promotes high ethical standards and recognizes the worthiness of all useful occupations while fostering the ideal of service in the pursuit of all vocations.

Each Rotarian presents the dignity and utility of one’s vocation as an opportunity to serve society. Rotarians conduct themselves and their businesses in accordance with Rotary guiding principles.

Vocational Service is at the very heart of Rotary. Indeed, Rotary was founded by a group of business people as a forum for them to share their experiences and to interact with colleagues in different industries. To this day, an integral part of any Rotary club is the maintenance of a balance among classifications of businesses and professions.

Vocational Service is unlike the other three Avenues of Service in one very important aspect: The other three Avenues integrate all members into a Rotary Club, but the Vocational Service Avenue is the one arena in which the Rotarian stands alone representing their vocation.

Rotarians in Red Lodge focus on Vocational Service through:

Dictionaries for Third Graders

When the Rotary Club of Red Lodge was informed that some of the students in Carbon and Stillwater Counties had never owned a book, they knew they had to turn that around. They knew from their own experiences that words are the foundation for success in life. The Dictionaries for Third Graders Project grew out of that desire to ensure that local youth owned at least one book they could call their own and that book should be a foundation for their future.

Each year, the Rotary Club of Red Lodge purchases and distributes dictionaries that include atlases and almanacs to third graders in Carbon and Stillwater Counties in Montana. Dictionaries are distributed at the following schools:

CARBON STILLWATER
Belfry Absarokee
Bridger Columbus
Fromberg Fishtail
Joliet Molt
Luther Nye
Red Lodge Park City
Roberts Rapelje
  Reed Point

Red Lodge is part of a bigger picture when it comes to Dictionaries for Third Graders. The entire state of Montana participates in this program. The happy and proud faces worn by the third graders upon receipt of their dictionaries is proof positive that this is a worthwhile endeavor. High School Career Fair

The diverse members of the Rotary Club of Red Lodge are always eager to assist young citizens in the community. A career fair focused on 9th-12th graders in the Red Lodge area is a perfect way for Rotarians to help youth understand the relationship between accomplishing more in school and becoming well rounded adults. For information about this effort contact John Walsh at johnwalshathome@aol.com.
